BERKELEY – The California Baseball team will begin its first season as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2025 by hosting five ACC opponents – Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, NC State and Virginia – at Stu Gordon Stadium with all other than Boston College making their first trips to Berkeley. Three of the five – Florida State, NC State and Virginia – were participants in the 2024 College World Series with Florida State reaching the semifinals.
Before Cal welcomes any of its ACC opponents to Berkeley, the Golden Bears open the season with a 10-game nonconference homestand that starts with a four-game set against Nevada (Feb. 14-17) before continuing against Houston (Feb. 21-23), CSU Bakersfield (Feb. 25) and the first two contests of a four-game series with Santa Clara (Feb. 28 – March 1) that concludes with two road games at Santa Clara (March 2-3).
Cal will make its ACC debut with a three-game series at Duke (March 7-9) before returning home to play Utah in a nonconference game (March 11) and then host its first ACC home series against Virginia (March 14-16).
The Bears will next embark on their longest road stretch of the season although six of the nine contests will be played in Northern California beginning at Saint Mary’s (March 18) and continuing with the Bears’ first ACC games at long-time rival Stanford (March 21-23). The road trip continues during spring break with a Tuesday contest at San Francisco (March 25) before the Bears visit Louisville (March 28-30) and wrap up the stretch with a Tuesday tilt at Sacramento State (April 1).
After its nine-game roadie, Cal will play nine of its next 12 and 16 of its final 24 regular-season contests at home beginning with a three-game series against Clemson (April 4-6). Cal will have a Tuesday home game against Pacific (April 8) before visiting Georgia Tech for a three-game set (April 11-13) and then play all four contests at home the following week with Fresno State (April 15) and NC State (April 17-19) coming to Berkeley.
Cal will also host Saint Mary’s (April 22) in a Tuesday night game before visiting Notre Dame (April 25-27) in its final ACC road series of the regular season the following week.
The Bears wrap up their nonconference schedule with a home contest against San Francisco (April 29) followed by trips to San Jose State (April 29) and Pacific (May 6) that sandwich an off weekend before closing out the regular season with back-to-back ACC home series against Florida State (May 9-11) and Boston College (May 15-17).
The ACC Tournament is scheduled for May 20-25 at Durham Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina.
The NCAA Selection Show is slated for May 26 with the NCAA Regionals (May 30 – June 2) and NCAA Super Begionals (June 6-9) to follow at sites to be determined. The eight Super Regional winners advance to the College World Series (June 13-23) at Charles Schwab Stadium Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.
Cal is coming off a 36-19 campaign in 2024 that was capped with wins in 20 of its final 25 games. The Bears’ .655 winning percentage was its best since the 1966 squad was 32-14 (.696). Cal reached the semifinals of the Pac-12 Tournament and narrowly missed a spot in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.
Returnees on Cal’s 2025 roster include first-team All-Pac-12 infielders in 2B Jarren Advincula and SS PJ Moutzouridis, as well as 2024 Pac-12 honorable mention outfielder Seth Gwynn. Advincula led the Bears with a .325 batting average in 2024 and then was the Cape Cod League batting champion this past summer with a .392 mark. Moutzouridis (.299, 6 HR, 42 RBI) and Gwynn (.311, 7 HR, 29 RBI) both also had strong campaigns at the plate for Cal in 2024.
Cal’s 2024 fall roster included 22 newcomers with 12 transfers and nine of those from four-year schools in C Alex Birge (Wichita State), RHP Spencer Dessart (Washington), INF Jacob French (San Francisco State), INF Jeff Hoffman (Willamette), RHP JJ Hollis (UC Santa Barbara), INF Carl Schmidt (Texas A&M), LHP David Shaw (Texas), RHP Ryan Spalliero (Saint Mary’s) and RHP/OF Cole Tremain (Baylor).
“We are looking forward to our first baseball season in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2025,” head coach Mike Neu said. “It is a competitive schedule and some of the best college baseball teams in the country are coming to Berkeley. We believe our fans will enjoy a good brand of baseball and show up strong to support our team.”
