Where will Cam Skattebo be picked in the 2025 NFL Draft?
According to recent NFL draft projections, the third round could be a likely landing spot for the former Arizona State running back, with several NFL mock drafts predicting the Peach Bowl star to be picked in that round of the draft.
Could Skattebo go higher than some people anticipate?
Check out the latest news, speculation and chatter about where Cam Skattebo could be picked in the upcoming NFL draft, which includes some rave reviews from former NFL players, current NFL evaluators and NFL writers.
Yahoo Sports: Cam Skattebo could go higher than people anticipate in 2025 NFL Draft
It wrote: “He got a lot of votes as a guy evaluators loved to watch. Quintessential juice on film. One general manager said it looked at times like Skattebo was “chasing linebackers for a hit” instead of the other way around. ‘He reminds me of Jeremy Shockey a little bit [when Shockey was coming] out of Miami, where looking to lay a guy out rather than run away from him. There’s a lot of that [on Skattebo].’ He carried the Sun Devils to the CFP on a team that likely won’t have another player drafted this year. Skattebo forced over 100 missed tackles along the way, and while his straight line 40-yard dash left a lot to be desired, he projects a very athletic profile otherwise. One of my favorite quotes about late great safety Sean Taylor was that he played the game like he had another body on a hanger in the closet. That’s Skattebo. We pegged him for a selection in the bottom half of the third round, but after talking to so many evaluators who raved about him, I would not be surprised if he ends up going higher than we’re anticipating.”
NFL.com: Cam Skattebo deserves more ‘respect’ in lead up to NFL draft
Charles Davis writes: “Skattebo might be a top-five running back in this year’s draft. I definitely believe he can be an NFL starter. I know his timed speed is not great, but I’m not overly worried about it. With his running style and play speed, he will still be able to break off runs of 10-20 yards that make a big difference in a game. And he’ll have some runs even longer than those when he knocks people over down the field. Yes, he has a compact build, but he moves like a player with more length, and he’s going to punish defenses. He can make plays in the passing game, too, with soft hands that pluck the ball quite well. I don’t know if people are giving him the respect he deserves this spring.”
Briggs told the CHGO Bears podcast: “If we did draft Cam Skattebo, we’d be getting a hell of a player,” Briggs said on the CHGO Bears podcast. “I think his game transfers to the NFL extremely well. With D’Andre Swift being a player in space, a space-type of back, speedy, spot back, Cam Skattebo, is a guy who runs really well in between tackles, catches out of the backfield extremely well, he’ll move the chains. To me, he’s an every-down type of back. Great balance, great vision, I don’t think there’s anything he can’t do.”
PFF.com: Cleveland Browns should target Cam Skattebo on Day 2 of NFL draft
Mason Cameron writes: “Cleveland has struggled to find a workhorse back to lean on since Nick Chubb’s devastating knee injury. Skattebo would undoubtedly fill the void. His physicality jumps off the tape as both a runner (94.6 PFF grade) and a blocker, possessing a mentality and the after-contact consistency that the Browns’ front office can build around while they figure out the quarterback situation.”
CBS Sports: Cam Skattebo picked by New England Patriots in third round (No. 69 overall)
It wrote: “In the third round, New England found a legitimate ‘football player’ in Cam Skatteboout of Arizona State.”
Sports Illustrated: Cam Skattebo chosen by New York Giants in third round (No. 99 overall)
Patricia Traina wrote: “I don’t think Skattebo will fall into this spot, but he was on the board at this point, so he was the pick. As noted before, Devin Singletary, currently projected as RB2 for the Giants, will collect the last of his guaranteed money this year. Skattebo here was an absolute steal for a guy who is not only a physical runner but a pretty good receiver out of the backfield.”
CBS Sports: Cam Skattebo lands with New England Patriots in third round (No. 77 overall)
Tyler Sullivan wrote: “Skattebo was electrifying for the Sun Devils last season, particularly in the College Football Playoff against Texas. There, he nearly willed Arizona State to a win over Texas, totaling 242 total rushing and receiving yards and three touchdowns (including a passing score). New England needs an injection of game-breaking talent, and could be good for a reset in the backfield after Rhamondre Stevenson’s fumbles in 2024.”
Sports Illustrated: Cam Skattebo selected by Los Angeles Chargers in third round (No. 86 overall)
Andrew Parsaud writes: “Adding to the offensive weaponry is Cam Skattebo in the third round, which could turn into a homerun. Skattebo ran for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns on 293 carries for the Sun Devils last season, as he garnered serious coverage during his insane campaign. Skattebo has a bigger frame and doesn’t shy away from contact, but also is explosive enough to be a real threat whenever the ball is in his hands.”
USA TODAY Sports: Cam Skattebo goes to Kansas City Chiefs in third round (No. 95 overall)
Jacob Camenker writes: “Kareem Hunt filled in admirably for the injured Isiah Pacheco throughout the 2024 NFL season, but neither back averaged more than 3.7 yards per carry last season. Hunt will turn 30 ahead of the 2025 campaign, so the Chiefs should probably add another playmaker to their backfield rotation. Skattebo was one of college football’s breakout stars in 2024. He finished fifth in the Heisman voting after racking up 1,711 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns on 293 carries while leading Arizona State to a College Football Playoff appearance. Skattebo’s thick build (5-9, 219 pounds) and top-tier contact balance should make him tough to tackle at the NFL level. That makes him a strong long-term partner for the speedy Pacheco.”
