CBS Sports has flattering label for AJ Dybantsa and BYU

When people talk about college basketball powerhouses, not many of them will think about the BYU Cougars. That has never been the case in the many decades of program history.

Then again, with a little help from NBA legend Danny Ainge and former NBA player Kevin Young as a coach, they expect to change that narrative sooner rather than later.

So far, so good. In their latest rankings, CBS Sports chose them as a top-tier championship contender, as they have high hopes for projected first-overall pick A.J. Dybantsa.

BYU primed for championship contention

“BYU coach Kevin Young has so many buttons he can press offensively, and the Cougs’ defense should be able to play more coverages with, candidly, way better athletes. The ground that Dybantsa and Davis can cover on the perimeter is just a different level compared to previous iterations of BYU basketball,” read the report. “BYU can win six straight.”

Of course, we’ve seen promising teams look great on paper and then crumble under pressure when it matters the most, and experience also plays a big part in this kind of thing.

Then again, looking at their roster and a player of Dybantsa’s caliber, it’s easy to feel excited about the new-look Cougar and their outlook for the upcoming campaign.
