Corey Pronman and Scott Wheeler at The Athletic dropped a collaborative two-round mock draft this morning. I’m slightly disappointed they didn’t update the draft order in the first round based on the order we know with the playoff results (they still have the Leafs’ pick at 29), but they have a few intriguing names tied to the Blackhawks that I hadn’t considered previously with three of the four selections after No. 3 overall.
With that said, it shouldn’t surprise that we differ on all four of Chicago’s selections. I still have the New York Islanders taking forward Michael Misa with the first overall selection in the 2025 NHL Draft in my new, updated, full two-round mock draft that dropped earlier this morning.

- Speaking of Misa, here’s a really good interview from Marco D’Amico at RG Media. Interestingly, Misa says he’s open to exploring the college route if it looks like he needs another year before cracking an NHL lineup out of training camp.
Top NHL Draft prospect Michael Misa is set to go very early in the 2025 NHL Draft.
He breaks down how he handles the pressure, his love for Kucherov and Kaprizov and why he can crack an NHL lineup in the fall.

- Frank Nazar will look to continue driving offense with Alex Vlasic working on the blue line for the USA against Czechia at the IIHF Men’s World Championship this morning at 9:20 AM CT on NHL Network. Teuvo Teräväinen and Finland will take on Slovakia at the same time. Here’s how the US will line up this morning:

- The Blackhawks’ two remaining forwards are both among the tournament leaders in points. Here’s the leaderboard:

- According to a report on Tuesday morning from Tony Androckitis, forward Aku Räty is returning to Kärpät (Liiga) on a two-year deal. Räty, who turns 24 on July 5, was acquired in the deal with Utah that also brought Shea Weber’s cap hit to the Blackhawks this past season. He had six points in 15 regular-season games with the IceHogs and one goal in two playoff appearances. This isn’t a huge surprise or disappointment.
- Kevin Schmit at the Daily Herald shared his picks of five players who should be in the Blackhawks Hall of Fame.
- Lots of talk about the Islanders, who own the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft, getting closer to naming the general manager who will make that decision. Frank Seravalli reported on Monday that former Blackhawks exec Marc Bergevin had a second interview, and handicapped it as “a two-horse race at Belmont between Marc Bergevin and Mathieu Darche.” Others around the Islanders are reporting similarly.
- To the surprise of some Blackhawks fans, Chicago isn’t the only team without a head coach this morning. My guy Dennis Bernstein reported on Monday that Kings assistant DJ Smith’s interview “went well” with the Penguins recently to replace Mike Sullivan as their bench boss.
- A very informative interview with NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly here on a number of issues/topics they’re going to tackle as the league and NHLPA continue to dig in on a new CBA in the coming weeks and months.
Progress in CBA talks, on NHL postseason salary cap/LTIR issue, and latest on expansion, concussion protocol, and a regular season that ends earlier? - The Conference Finals begin tonight with the Carolina Hurricanes hosting the defending champion Florida Panthers. The Western Conference Final between Oilers and Stars gets started tomorrow night in Dallas.
