On Tuesday, December 24, the Kansas City Chiefs surpassed 1 million subscribers on the club’s official YouTube channel. The Chiefs became the first NFL team – and just the second American professional sports team – to reach the milestone, joining the Golden State Warriors. In addition, the club has tallied 5 million followers on the team’s official TikTok page, becoming the third American professional team to cross that mark.
“We are incredibly proud of the continued growth of our digital platforms and social channels, and becoming the first NFL team to hit these milestones is a special accomplishment for our team,” Chiefs EVP and Chief Media and Marketing Officer Lara Krug said. “This is a testament to Chiefs Kingdom and how our fans engage with us. A lot of work goes into creating compelling content and maximizing how it’s consumed by our fans, and we will continue to look for new and unique ways to reach our audience on YouTube, TikTok and beyond.”
Launched in May 2015, the Chiefs YouTube page is the online home for original short-form pieces, exclusive long-form content, as well as live press conferences, podcast episodes, game previews and more. The channel saw more than 50 percent growth from August 1, 2024 to December 22, 2024, picking up more than 343,000 subscribers during that span to help push to the top of the NFL charts and exceed the 1 million mark.
To celebrate reaching 1 million subscribers on YouTube, the Chiefs have released a long-form piece of the top moments since the inception of Chiefs YouTube (YouTube) and a YouTube Short of the top viral moments from the channel’s history (YouTube).
The Chiefs also rank first in the NFL with 5 million followers on TikTok, joining the Golden State Warriors and Inter Miami CF as the only pro teams in the United States to reach that mark. Chiefs TikTok delivers more trend-based, short-form content pieces that focus on player personalities and helmet-off content, with some integration of traditional football game and practice coverage.
The Chiefs now hold the fifth-largest social footprint in the NFL at more than 16.3 million combined followers across all platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube, TikTok and Snapchat). That is up more than 260 percent from 4.5 million followers (19th in the League) in August 2019. The club also ranks in the top seven across the NFL in following on Instagram, X/Twitter and Snapchat, and ranks 13th in Facebook following.
