Just like any young quarterback, where Clemson Tigers football star Cade Klubnik ends up in the NFL could make all the difference between him having success and failing.
Some teams are just historically better at developing quarterbacks than others, plain and simple. One of the worst teams in league history at finding and bringing along quarterbacks is the Cleveland Browns.
By now, you’ve probably seen the jersey created by fans that lists all of the failed signal-callers in recent Browns history. If you haven’t, just know the list is long.
The Browns took two cracks at finding their franchise quarterback in the 2025 NFL draft after taking both Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.
However, one analyst, Lou Scataglia of NFL Spin Zone, predicts that it will be status quo for Cleveland and that both Sanders and Gabriel won’t pan out. As a result, he has the Browns digging into next year’s draft for their next attempt.
And that attempt comes in the form of Klubnik, who lands at No. 3 overall to the Browns in Scataglia’s mock draft.
“Cade Klubnik is the third overall pick in this 2026 NFL mock draft, heading to the QB-needy Cleveland Browns. It’s just not likely that Shedeur Sanders or Dillon Gabriel end up amounting to much in the NFL,” Scataglia wrote.
Klubnik has routinely been mocked in different spots by experts, but most of those projections have him landing in the first round and as one of the first — if not the first — quarterbacks off the board.
Klubnik has put together two strong seasons as Clemson’s starter, but he’ll have to post another strong showing in 2025 to seal his fate as a first-round quarterback.
If Klubnik can do that, he might land on the Browns, who should be terrible enough that they’ll be drafting high once again in 2026.
That would be the worst imaginable landing spot for Klubnik, as not only would he be joining a franchise that has routinely failed at the position, he’d also be climbing on board with a team that is dysfunctional as they come as a whole.
On the flip side, if Klubnik can break the mold and have success in Cleveland, he’ll elevate himself to a status few in NFL history have ever seen.
