Next week, the transfer portal opens once again.
It’s entirely possible that this is the final time we see an unchecked, chaotic free agency window months before the season starts.
But even if it’s not, Clemson is positioned well.
Why? Because, as I’m sure you’re well aware, the Tigers operate a little differently.
That begins on the front end, which is perhaps the piece that flies under the radar a little bit. Other programs may encourage players to test the deep, dark portal waters. Doing that opens up spots for highly-priced commodities that will be available for purchase in the coming days. On the surface, this strategy makes sense. During a time when the margins are smaller than ever, why wouldn’t you substitute out the lower options on your depth chart for sure starters?

Well, there’s always a give and take. The more you take from elsewhere, the more your roster will give. There’s nobody in the country that is only bringing players in and not losing any.
Clemson has already lost Tavoy Feagin this spring before the door even officially opened, and five others left the program following last season.
But in a sport that currently lacks any kind of structure or organization, Dabo Swinney is still building his program the old-fashioned way. For the last couple years, it has been a young roster taking its bumps through development. But the 2025 version of the Tigers is built to win big.
