College Baseball Best Bets for Sunday, June 8

Matt Grissom, frequent VSiN guest on the topic of college baseball betting, offers his top plays for Sunday, June 8.

As we head into another elimination day, at least three more teams will be sent home while the winners punch their ticket to join Coastal Carolina in Omaha. In a surprising move, Auburn gave the ball to Andreas Alvarez instead of their expected G2 starter, Christian Chatterton. The Chanticleers took full advantage and secured a 4-1 win in Game Two, earning their first trip back to Omaha since winning it all in 2016.

Now onto today’s elimination games: Miami vs. Louisville, North Carolina vs. Arizona, and Florida State vs. Oregon State. Can the ACC pull off a clean sweep and lock in three spots for Omaha? Can Duke finish the job against Murray State, or will the Racers force a Game Three? All great storylines, but one matchup steals the show.

Arkansas vs. Tennessee. Part five. These two heavyweights will meet for the fifth time this season. If you watched yesterday’s game, you saw just how high the emotions are. Arkansas came out on top 4-3 behind a dominant performance from ace Zach Root and middle reliever Gabe Gaeckle, who combined to hold Tennessee’s explosive offense to just two hits.

Today’s game will once again center around Tennessee ace Liam Doyle. A Golden Spikes finalist and the best pitcher in the country this season, Doyle will be looking to avenge his regular-season loss in Fayetteville, when Arkansas tagged him for 11 hits and six earned runs. On the other side, Arkansas will hand the ball to Gage Wood, a hard-throwing righty who feeds off the energy of the home crowd. This one should be another instant classic.

Miami +1.5 (-107) vs. Louisville

Probable Starters: Reese Lumpkin (MIA) vs Ethan Eberle (LOU)

When two mid-tier ACC teams end up in a Super Regional, you get this kind of chaos. Louisville crushed Miami 8-1 in Game One, but Miami answered with a 9-6 win to force the decider. Expect this to be a bullpen game after the third or fourth inning. I give the edge to Miami, who has the deeper and more talented pitching staff. While I believe they can win outright, taking the run line is the smarter play since they are the road team and the margin is tight enough that a walk-off is always in play.

ML Parlay: Duke/LSU (-140)

Probable Starters: TBA (DUKE) / Anthony Eyanson (LSU)

These are two teams that simply outclass their opponents. West Virginia threw their ace Griffin Kirn against LSU and still lost 16-9. That was their best shot to take a game from the Tigers. Duke, meanwhile, gets AJ Gracia back from suspension, and their offense should overwhelm Murray State. I do not see the Racers having enough left to hang in this one.

Florida State ML (-115) vs. Oregon State

Probable Starters: Wes Mendes (FSU) vs Eric Segura (ORST)

Florida State should already be booking their flight to Omaha. Instead, after blowing a 4-1 lead with two outs in the ninth of Game One, they are now in a must-win. Fortunately, they will turn to trusted lefty Wes Mendes. Oregon State, on the other hand, has already used their two best arms, Kleinschmit and Whitney. I think the advantage swings back to Florida State and expect Link Jarrett’s squad to close it out tonight.

UTSA ML (+110) vs. UCLA

Probable Starters: Braylon Owens (UTSA) vs Landon Stump (UCLA)

UCLA handled their business last night, beating UTSA 5-2 and handing the Roadrunners their first loss of the postseason. But I do not see this UTSA team folding. They are still the better squad in my eyes and should respond with Braylon Owens on the mound. If UCLA sends out righty Landon Stump, the Roadrunner offense should be able to generate plenty of scoring opportunities, which was a struggle for them last night against Barnett.
