College baseball: BPCC completes sweep of Richland

The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers swept a doubleheader against Richland College Saturday, completing a three-game series sweep at BPCC.

BPCC (5-1) won Game One 4-3 Friday Friday. The Cavs won Game Two 15-5 and Game Three 6-0 Saturday.

Game One

The Cavaliers took the lead late in the game. Clutch hitting by Dylan Biddick gave the Cavs the lead in the seventh inning and ultimately propelled them to the win.

Biddick collected three hits, including a home run. Former Minden standout Brody Bower pitched four innings in relief. The righty allowed four hits, one run, walked one and struck out six.

Jake Guidry got the start for the Cavs and went three innings. He gave up three hits, two runs, struck out three and walked three.

Another bright spot at the plate was centerfielder Jacob Poletto who had two hits, one of which was a triple. Zander Bretza closed the game with two scoreless innings of work fanning two. 

Game Two

Tyrus HallBrandon Levy and James Reina led the charge on the offensive end. West Virginia signee Hall hit two home runs that drove in three. 

The Cavs took a lead in the second inning on a Parker Gwyn single and later a big three-run home run from catcher James Reina.

In the fourth inning Hunter Fontenot delivered  a two RBI double and in the sixth inning Poletto singled driving in two runs. Hall homered scoring two runs.

Former Parkway star Levy, who had three hits, hit a single to score a run. Cameron Williams got the nod on the mound for the Cavaliers and went three innings. The southpaw did not allow an earned run and struck out four. Bryson Menard and Jake Skelly both appeared in relief and combined to strike out two. Overall the offense collected twelve hits.

Game Three

Three pitchers combined to throw a shutout in the final game of the series. Ben Mckinnon got the start and went five innings not allowing a hit or a run while striking out eight hitters.

Garrett Blanchard was called on next and went three innings scattering three hits with three strikeouts. Levy closed the game out with one inning of work and one strikeout.

The offense was led by Daniel Pinkerton who had three hits including a home run. Hall also had a good day at the plate collecting three hits. Hayden Stringfellow broke the game open with his big two-RBI double in the seventh.

The Cavs are back in action Thursday at home against SAU-Tech. First pitch will be at 3 p.m.
