College baseball: BPCC downs NTCC in first game of conference series

In a thrilling Region 14 North Division clash, Bossier Parish Community College overcame an early deficit to defeat Northeast Texas Community College 10-8 Wednesday at BPCC.

The Cavaliers improved to 27-14 overall and 15-10 in the conference. The three-game series concludes Friday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at BPCC.

A potent offensive outburst led by Parker Gwyn’s two home runs and clutch pitching down the stretch lifted the Cavs to the victory.

NTCC jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the early innings, putting BPCC’s resilience to the test. The Eagles’ bats came out hot, capitalizing on aggressive hitting. However, BPCC’s offense, known for its depth and firepower, refused to stay quiet.

Gwyn ignited the Cavaliers’ comeback. His first homer cut into NTCC’s lead, and his second, a towering shot, swung momentum firmly in BPCC’s favor.

Jacob Gillis added to the power surge with a home run. Dylan Biddick also played a pivotal role, going 3-for-4 and providing consistent offensive pressure.

Brandon Levy gave the Cavs offense its last clutch moment of the day as he singled up the middle with two outs in the eighth to drive in two runs.

Cam Williams proved instrumental on the mound, delivering 3 1/3?innings of quality relief to stabilize the game after the early deficit. His ability to limit NTCC’s scoring opportunities gave BPCC’s offense the chance to take control.

As the game entered the late stages, NTCC mounted a comeback attempt, narrowing the gap and threatening to tie the score.

In the eighth inning, Jake Skelly came up clutch, recording key outs to strand NTCC runners and preserve BPCC’s lead.

The Cavaliers turned to Zander Bretza in the ninth, and the closer delivered a dominant performance, striking out two batters to secure the save and lock down the 10-8 victory.
