The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers’ historic season came to an end Saturday in heartbreaking fashion on Day 3 of the Region 14 North Tournament at BPCC.
For the second day in a row, the No. 1 seed Cavs couldn’t hold a late lead. Tyler Junior College (35-22), the No. 3 seed, scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth and walked off with a 6-5 victory. The Apaches faced No. 3 San Jacinto-North in the championship round Saturday evening. San Jacinto defeated BPCC 6-5 Friday.
BPCC closed its season 35-18. The Cavs won the North regular-season title, earning the right to host the regional tournament for the first time in 25 years.
BPCC, the designated visiting team, scored a run in the top of the seventh to take a 5-2 lead. But Tyler tallied two in the bottom of the inning to get within one.
The Cavs drew back-to-back walks with in the top of the ninth but couldn’t get a run home.
The Apaches led off the bottom of the ninth with a single and double. An intentional walk loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly with one out tied the game. Levi Risenhoover’s RBI-single with one out ended it.
BPCC’s Tyrus Hall went 2-for-5 with a solo home run. Parker Gwyn had two doubles. Hayden Stringfellow had two hits, including a double.
Former Minden star Brody Bower turned in a game effort on the mound for BPCC. He gave up 11 hits but only four runs in six innings with six strikeouts and no walks.
Tyler finished with 15 hits. Preston Newberry and Lathan Van Ausdall had four each.
