College baseball: Catawba loses third in a row

AIKEN, S.C. — A rare Catawba College baseball losing streak stretched to three games with Wednesday’s 8-7 setback at USC Aiken.

Catawba (23-10) overcame an early 5-0 deficit to lead 6-5, but USC Aiken (16-19) broke a 6-all tie with two decisive runs in the bottom of the eighth and held on in the ninth.

Dylan Driver and James Dunlap went 2-for-4 and had RBIs at the top of the lineup. Driver had a double and two steals.

Catawba pitched a good chunk of the staff for short stints with nine pitchers taking the mound. Brandon Rodgers (3-1) took the loss.

Catawba will look to bounce back in a weekend series at home against Tusculum.
