College baseball: Catawba scores 26

BELMONT — Catawba’s baseball team won by a football-ish score on Tuesday at Belmont Abbey, where the Indians took a 26-8 victory.
Yes, 26-8.
It was a normal game for six innings, tied at 5-all.
But Catawba (11-4) scored 11 runs in the seventh and seven more in the eighth to crunch the Crusaders (10-5).
Catawba had 24 hits.
The most outlandish boxscores were produced by Sean Shelly — 6-5-4-5 — and Ty Hubbard. Hubbard (South Rowan) had a 6-2-5-5 effort.
Shelly and Jack Cuba homered. Cuba’s homer was a pinch-hit, three-run blast.
Dylan Driver (Carson) and Matthew Connolly (West Rowan) had three RBIs each.
Cole Hales (Carson) pitched four innings but wasn’t around for the decision. Brandon Rodgers (2-0) got credit for the win.
