College baseball: Gouge in control, as Catawba wins series

SALISBURY — Casey Gouge was super on the mound as Catawba’s baseball team flattened Shippensburg 13-1 at Newman Park on Sunday.
The lefty from West Rowan gave up one run in six innings. He allowed four hits, walked one and struck out 10 of the 23 batters he faced.
Catawba’s offense wasn’t as exciting as the scoreboard — seven singles, one double and 12 walks.
Cole Hales (Carson) had the double for the Indians (4-3), who won the series two games to one.
Hales and Nahan Chrismon (South Rowan) had two RBIs.
James Dunlap scored three runs.
Catawba has a home series with Anderson this weekend.
