By Curtis Ford, Grambling State Associate AD for Athletic Communications

The Grambling State University baseball team had two players earn preseason All-SWAC honors, announced by the conference on Monday morning. The Tigers were also projected to atop the conference in the preseason poll.

Pitchers Mason Martinez and Javier Martinez both earned SWAC Second Team preseason honors.

Mason Martinez was one of the most dominant pitchers in the conference, helping guide GSU to the NCAA Tournament after posting 12-3 record as a starter with a 4.74 ERA. His 12 wins tops the SWAC. He also struck out 87 batters, the second most in the conference.

Javier Martinez was one of the best relief pitchers in the SWAC last season. He sported a 4-1 record with a 4.73 ERA, 39 strikeouts and two saves in 17 appearances. In 2024, the Fuquay-Varina, N.C. native was one of the most improved relivers in the conference last season, helping lead the Tigers to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2010.

In the SWAC Preseason Poll, Grambling State was picked to repeat as conference champs, garnering seven first place votes and 156 points in the projections.  Bethune-Cookman (2nd), Jackson State (3rd), Alabama State (4th), and Florida A&M (5th) round out the list of top five SWAC Preseason Poll selections.

GSU opens the 2025 season on Friday, Feb. 14 in the Cactus Jack HBCU Classic at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas versus Jackson State.
