The LSU Tigers rallied past Little Rock 10-6 Monday night to win the NCAA Tournament’s Baton Rouge Regional at Skip Bertman Field, Alex Box Stadium.
LSU (46-15), the No. 6 overall seed, will host West Virginia in a best-of-3 Super Regional starting Friday or Saturday.
West Virginia (44-14) won the Clemson Regional.
Little Rock, the regional’s No. 4 seed, closed its season 27-34.
Cason Evans, who relieved starter Zac Cowan in the second inning, pitched six innings for the win. He struck out eight in a row and finished with 12.
Ethan Frey went 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and four RBI. Luis Hernandez went 3-for-5 with two home runs.
Little Rock, the designated home team , scored five runs in the bottom of the second to take a 5-1 lead.
Frey, who homered in the first inning, got the Tigers within one with a two-out, bases-loaded double in the top of the fourth,
Hernandez’s home run with one out in the top of the sixth tied it at 5.
The Tigers took the lead for good in the seventh. Frey doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout.
Hernandez hit his second homer in the eighth to put LSU on top 7-5
The Trojans scored a run in the bottom of the inning. They had runners at first and second with one out.
Anthony Eyanson relieved Evans. After throwing three straight balls, he struck out Zach Henry and then induced a groundout to end the inning.
The Tigers added three runs in the ninth, including a two-run homer by Jared Jones.
Little Rock’s Angel Cano, who went 2-for-4, was named the regional’s Most Outstanding Player. Here is the rest of the All-Regional team.
