College baseball: SCC sweeps pair from Kirkwood

The Southeastern Community College baseball team pounded out 17 hits and scored 15 runs to sweep an Iowa Community College Athletic Association doubleheader from rival Kirkwood on Thursday at Community Field.

SCC won the opener, 10-5 and completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory in the nightcap.

In the first game, Jackson Petsche went 3-for-4, scored three runs and drove in two for the Blackhawks.

James Nydegger was 2-for-3, scored two runs and drove in two runs.

Kade Schneider was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and scored two runs.

Caleb Klein had a three-run single.

Owen Thomson picked up the win. In 2 2/3 innings, he allowed no hit and struck out three.

In the second game, Michael Farina was 2-for-3 with a double and drove in three runs to lead SCC.

Efrain Osorio scored two runs for SCC.

Eddy Eveland picked up the win. In 4 1/3 innings, he allowed two hits and one earned run, walked three and fanned four.

SCC improved to 25-6 overall, 10-0 in Region XI.

The Blackhawks traveled to Iowa Lakes for a three-game series Saturday and Sunday.
