College Baseball: TAMUT excited to face top-ranked LSU-Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, La. — Texas A&M University-Texarkana baseball coach Chase Brewster is excited about the team’s upcoming series.

TAMUT (24-11, 12-6) has been preparing to take on No. 1 Louisiana State University-Shreveport (34-0, 18-0), although the dates and times of the games have changed. The Eagles enter the series looking to knock off the unbeaten Pilots, who Brewster called a “model of consistency.”

He believes they are good for the sport.

“LSUS has become the model of consistency for our league,” Brewster said. “What they are doing right now for college baseball and the NAIA is awesome, and it is bringing a positive light to our league. Coach Neffendorf does a great job with his guys, and we are excited to be able to see where we match up with them.”

Brewster likes where his team is at entering the month of April and said the team has made great strides since the start of the season. They are also excited about getting a player like James Provencio back for the stretch run of the regular season.

“We have had a great year so far and have improved in so many ways since our first game in January. Now that we are going into April, hopefully, we can continue to show that we are playing better,” Brewster said. “Getting James Provencio back after missing the last five or six weeks was huge for us.

“Hopefully, we can continue to get healthy and keep playing well.”

The Eagles have four conference series left on the schedule and are currently near the top of the conference standings. They have the same conference record as Our Lady of the Lake University, which is good for third in the standings. The final four conference series will be huge for seeding in the conference tournament.

“These last four conference series are huge for seeding for our conference tournament, so hopefully we will continue to play well down the stretch,” Brewster said.

The updated schedule has Friday’s games starting at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. before a Monday series finale.
