Rick Pitino will eventually stop adding quality pieces from the transfer portal, I think. But the Naismith Memorial Hall of Famer has been going full speed since St. John’s season ended with the latest development coming Wednesday when Dillon Mitchell publicly committed to the Red Storm.
“We are thrilled to have Dillon Mitchell join our basketball family,” Pitino said. “Pound for pound, inch for inch, [Dillon is] one of the hardest working and most productive players in the nation. He brings great experience and talent to our team.”
Mitchell was a top-10 prospect from the Class of 2022 who started his college career at Texas and played two years there before transferring to Cincinnati, where he averaged 9.9 points and 6.9 rebounds this past season. The 6-foot-8 forward is the fifth power-conference transfer to commit to St. John’s in recent weeks — joining Ian Jackson (North Carolina), Bryce Hopkins (Providence), Joson Sanon (Arizona State), Dillon Mitchell (Cincinnati) and Oziyah Sellers (Stanford).
