College basketball roundup: Ridgewater men fall, women win at Fergus Falls

FERGUS FALLS — Ridgewater shot well, but Minnesota State Community & Technical College-Fergus Falls shot even better.

It added up to a 103-93 men’s basketball loss for Ridgewater on Wednesday night.

Fergus Falls shot 56.9% from the field, making 41 of 72 shots. The Spartans accomplished that despite making 4 of 18 3-point attempts, 22.2%.

Ridgewater, meanwhile, shot 50.7%, making 35 of 69 field goal attempts. The Warriors were 15 of 29 from 3-point range, 51.7%.

Fergus Falls made 17 of 23 free throw attempts to the Warriors’ 8 of 12. The Spartans out-rebounded Ridgewater 36-29.

Mason Muir had 27 points and five assists, Yonis MMuhamud had 23 points, eight rebounds and four steals and Foday Sheriff had 22 points, 16 rebounds and three assists for Fergus Falls. Muir is a 6-foot-2 sophomore guard from Seattle, Washington. Mohamud is a 6-4 sophomore from Shakopee and Sheriff is a 6-4 sophomore from West Fargo, North Dakota.

Six players scored in double figures for Ridgewater. Tyrese Mayo led the way with 17 points. Elijah Caul came off the bench to score 16 points. Aiden Wichmann, Keagen Shrider and DeAndre Holloway all had 14 points and Michael Henderson added 10 for the Warriors.

Mayo is a 5-11 freshman from Winter Haven, Florida. Caul is a 6-1 freshman from Tampa, Fla. Wichmann is a 6-3 sophomore from Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. Shrider is a 6-0 sophomore from Cambridge-Isanti and Holloway is a 6-7 freshman from Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg. Henderson is a 6-3 sophomore from Mankato West.

Ridgewater is 2-2 in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference South Division and 10-5 entering the game. Fergus Falls is 3-1 and 17-2.

Ridgewater won its second game of the season, breaking a five-game losing streak, with the victory at Fergus Falls.

The Warriors used six players. Fergus Falls played all five of its starters the entire 40 minutes.

Julie Hines led Ridgewater with 16 points. Nevaeh Rahm had 15 points, Ellaina Bergstrom 12 with eight rebounds and Lily Dean had 10 points and seven assists.

Hines is a 5-foot-2 freshman from Randolph. Rahm is a 6-0 freshman from Fairmont. Bergstrom is a 5-5 freshman from Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart and Dean is a 5-6 freshman from BOLD. Shakira Olson, a 5-8 freshman from Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, came off the bench for the Warriors.

Tenley Epema, a sophomore guard from Montevideo, had six points and four assists for Fergus Falls.

Ridgewater is 1-3 in the MCAC South Division and 2-14 overall. Fergus Falls was 0-3 and 5-8.
