College basketball roundup: Ridgewater shoots well to beat St. Cloud T&CC

ST. CLOUD — The Ridgewater men’s basketball team used some sharp shooting to beat St. Cloud Technical & Community College 90-83 Wednesday night.

The Warriors shot 51.6% from the field and 52.2% from 3-point range to beat the Cyclones in a Minnesota College Athletic Conference game at the Whitney Recreation Center.

Ridgewater made 33 of 64 shots from the field and was 12-for-23 from 3-point range.

Tyrese Mayo led the Warriors. The 5-foot-11 freshman guard from Winter Haven, Florida had 23 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

Aiden Wichmann, the 6-3 sophomore guard from Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, added 19 points for Ridgewater, which got 14 points apiece from Michael Henderson and DeAndre Holloway.

Henderson is a 6-3 sophomore from Mankato West. Holloway is a 6-7 freshman from Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg.

Jack Boos, a freshman from Rocori, had 17 points and Carter Jackson, a freshman from Buffalo, added 14 for St. Cloud, which shot 32.4% from the field, making 24 of 74 shots. The Cyclones shot 25% from 3-point range, sinking 8 of 32 attempts.

Ridgewater is now 1-1 in its division of the MCAC and is 9-5 overall. St. Cloud is 1-1 and 9-5.

Ridgewater next plays at 3 p.m. Saturday against Rochester Community and Technical College in Willmar.

St. Cloud 72, Ridgewater 54

St. Cloud Technical & Community College wore down Ridgewater to earn the Minnesota College Athletic Conference victory at the Whitney Recreation Center in St. Cloud.

Ridgewater played its five starters all 40 minutes. Nevaeh Rahm, a 6-foot freshman from Fairmont, led the Warriors with 21 points and nine rebounds. Julia Hines had 18 points and Lily Dean added 11 points and four assists for the Warriors. Hines is a 5-2 freshman from Randolph. Dean is a 5-6 sophomore from BOLD.

Ridgewater is 0-2 in its division of the MCAC and 1-13 overall. St. Cloud is 1-1 and 7-7.

The Cyclones played six players and had three starters play all 40 minutes. Brooklyn Fischer, a freshman guard from Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, led St. Cloud with 27 points. She was 9-for-18 from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range.

The Warriors next play Rochester Community and Technical College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Willmar.
