All the pieces in Alabama head football coach Kalen DeBoer’s vision for the Crimson Tide are coming together with Ryan Grubb’s hire.
It’s like he finally locked the “Robin to his Batman.”
On3’s JD Pickell believes the head coach-offensive coordinator tandem will remove the clunkiness DeBoer faced in Nick Saban’s offense in year one that caused a four-loss debut.
“You (DeBoer) were without the Robin to your Batman which is of course Ryan Grubb,” Pickell explains.
“They’ve worked together a long time. I think having a coworker that you’re in lock step with, that can be on the same page with you before you even sit down to have the offensive meeting, they’re seeing the same things as you on tape, and they know what to call before you even call it, I think that matters.”
Three of the Crimson Tide’s four losses last season were close calls. Had Grubb been there in place of Nick Sheridan with DeBoer, the outcome might have simply been different.
And that’s just the could-have-been’s part. Grubb’s mere onboarding is sparking hope for Alabama again, thanks to his proven winning strategy with QB-centered play.
Alabama football has three of the best options for QB1 in college football: Ty Simpson, Keelon Russell, and Austin Mack.
The new Crimson Tide OC’s QB “defines the offenses they play for.”
And the On3 analyst believes it will be “Alabama’s reality.”
Only time will tell whether DeBoer and Grubb could re-create their magic in Tuscaloosa.
