College football: Deuce shines in Spring Game

ATLANTA — Deuce Walker was one of the standouts of Georgia State’s Blue-White Spring Game on Friday.

Walker had an interception, a sack and two pass breakups.

Walker saw limited action as a true freshman last fall and was credited with three tackles.

Walker, 5-foot-10, 188 pounds, has stuck with the process, has put in work every day and is still growing. He is making a transition from cornerback to safety and is making a case to be a starter for the Panthers in the fall.

Walker starred at Salisbury High as a receiver and defensive back and made the Shrine Bowl team. He also stood out for the Hornets in basketball and as a track and field sprinter and was the Darrell Misenheimer Award winner as Rowan County Athlete of the Year as a senior.

Walker is the son of Catawba Hall of Famer and former Catawba head football coach Curtis Walker.

Deuce’s older brother, Jalon, was an All-America for the University of Georgia, was the Butkus Award winner as the nation’s top linebacker, and is expected to be a first-round draft pick later this month.
