
Continued success is not easy in college football’s new era of NIL and transfer portal-driven roster decisions. The balance of power shifts with the times. However, there are nine programs which sidestepped mass changes to recruiting to post at least eight consecutive winning seasons, including who’s No. 1 at 27 years and counting.
Coaching longevity is key, along with schedule favorability and the ability to stack elite recruiting classes on top of advanced player development, but these factors aren’t reserved for bluebloods only. There’s a couple programs who just seem to hang around the top 25 every year and pride themselves on consistency.
Wisconsin’s streak of winning seasons was snapped at 22 last fall while Oklahoma State’s ended at 18. Those were two of the top-three longest in the country and left many questioning the futures for Luke Fickell and Mike Gundy, respectively. Kyle Whittingham’s notable streak of 11 straight winning seasons ended at Utah during the Utes’ first year in the Big 12.
