For the first time in months, college football’s calendar is slowing down ahead of the 2025 season, and there’s no better time to update our preseason top-25 rankings from a post-spring perspective. Anchored by Heisman hopefuls, transfer portal additions and top-end coaching staffs, most of these squads appear to have what it takes to generate buzz as contenders in a few months.
Out of the six ballots cast from our team of national analysts at 247Sports, the first-place votes were evenly dispersed through Texas, Ohio State and Clemson. Within the voting process, 25 points were awarded for a first-place ranking, 24 points for second and so on. Our 2025 staff rankings have evolved since debuting in January thanks to more transfer additions and updated depth charts coming out of camp. Teams receiving votes but were not included are Tennessee (20 points), Iowa (9), Georgia Tech (8), Nebraska (8), Indiana (6), Boise State (3), USC (3), Utah (2), Missouri (1) and Wisconsin (1).
We’ll update this ranking one more time before opening weekend once fall camp has finished and the first, authentic two-deeps are out ahead of kickoff.
