A college football standout in Missouri has died tragically at the age of 21.

The university’s statement did not provide a cause of death for McGee. According to The Springfield News-Leader, McGee, a Missouri State football safety, was discovered after police went to his home for a wellness check on the morning of April 18 and found McGee with a “possible accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

“The Missouri State University family is mourning the loss of senior football player after he passed away early Saturday (April 19),” Missouri State wrote.

“Details on the incident remain under investigation by local authorities,” the statement says.

“On behalf of the university and our entire department, we want to express our condolences to Todric’s family, friends and teammates,” said Missouri State Director of Athletics Patrick Ransdell in the statement.
