Hewlett entered the portal when the spring window opened after playing just eight snaps on defense in two seasons at Michigan. He did, however, earn Michigan’s team award for Most Improved Player of the Year on special teams. Hewlett was expected to compete for a reserve role this spring but opted for a fresh start elsewhere and fielded portal interest from West Virginia, Virginia Tech, and California before deciding on Boston College.
