UW-River Falls senior and Spring Valley native Aaron Borgerding was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) 2024 Academic All-American Football Team on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
The Academic All-America Teams, selected by CSC, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Borgerding was selected to the Division III Second Team.
Borgerding is one of eight defensive backs to land a spot on the DIII Academic All-America Team, and one of two student-athletes representing the WIAC. He becomes the fourth Falcon in UWRF Football history to earn Academic All-American laurels, and the first UWRF athlete since women’s hockey player Callie Hoff in 2022.
“Aaron walks out of our program as one of the most decorated student-athletes we have ever had and leaves a legacy of one of the best leaders Falcon Football has seen.” UW-River Falls head football coach Matt Walker said. “He had a positive impact on our football team, our campus, and the River Falls community.”
Through the fall of 2024 semester, Borgerding boasted a 3.74 cumulative GPA, majoring in health and physical education with a minor in adapted physical education. He is the recipient of the 2024 WIAC Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete Award, an honor based on academic achievements, athletics accomplishments and involvement in other campus activities, organizations, and community service projects. In addition, Borgerding was a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation’s William V. Campbell Trophy, which includes Division I, II and III football student-athletes, recognizing an individual as the best football scholar-athlete in the nation for combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.
Having served as an officer with UWRF’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Borgerding also volunteered with Trick or Treat for Canned Goods, Run with the Cops, Youth Football Night, Kids Club, Minnesconsin Mega Camps and more.
On the field, the Spring Valley native wrapped up his career in 2024 helping lead the Falcons to their fourth consecutive winning season and was named to the D3football.com All-Region First Team and All-WIAC First Team. He started in all 10 games and ranked second on the team with 65 total tackles while adding three interceptions, three pass breakups, three tackles for loss, and one sack. Borgerding didn’t miss a game throughout his career as a Falcon, appearing in 42 games with 250 total tackles, including 7.5 tackles for loss, and ranks among UWRF’s top 10 all-time with 11 interceptions and 17 pass breakups.
