“College football was always the goal,” Minico’s Dominic Garza signs with Minnesota Morris

RUPERT, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Playing college football was always the goal.

Minico’s Dominic Garza turned that goal into a reality Tuesday morning, signing with Minnesota Morris (DIII).

“It feels amazing to move onto the next level,” Garza told KMVT. “A lot of people don’t get a chance like this, so I’m excited for the opportunity.

The Minico senior was a Great Basin honorable mention defensive back for the Spartans during the 2024 season, helping lead the Spartans to its third Great Basin Championship in four years, as well as a third-place finish at the 5A playoffs.

He’s now ready for the next chapter in his football career.

“I haven’t played the same spot every single year with Minico, but my coaches always find a way for me to be on the field and playing,” Garza said. “I feel like that’s a big advantage for me going to college.”

Garza joins his brother JT, who joined Minnesota Morris in 2023 after graduating from Minico.

The two are extremely close, just like the entire family and friends who all supported Garzaby, wearing specially made “Garza” shirts for the occasion.

The support has meant everything to him.

“It’s pretty cool because I know some people don’t get the chance to have a big family behind them, but I know my family is always go big or go home,” Garza said. “They’ll be there every single time I play, they’ll be there when I don’t play, they’ll be there when I’m hurt.”

Garza is excited to join Minnesota Morris and hopes to gain some weight before arriving on campus.

The School is in Morris, Minnesota.

The Cougars won the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Championship in 2023.

Gazra joins Minico teammates Will Neilson and Daniel Larios in signing to play college football.
