College football’s 15 greatest programs based on all-time win percentage

College football’s most successful programs of all-time all have a common theme — when legendary coaches are meshed with elite talent, winning happens. Those among the top 15 ranked by all-time win percentage have combined to dominate the sport for decades, most graced with the blue-blood distinction thanks to recruiting strongholds and ample resources. Coming out of the 2024 season following the first expanded College Football Playoff, we’ve updated all win-loss records for each of these top programs all-time.

Total wins isn’t the most objective way to access the top of the rankings since these programs played a different of number of games. Win percentage is calculated by dividing a team’s number of total wins, including bowl and playoff games, by their total number of games. Ties count as half-wins and half-losses by the NCAA. Six of the teams in this all-time ranking were participants in the College Football Playoff.

A few of the included winningest programs inside the top 15 are in the midst of unrivaled success, like Georgia, while others are historic blue bloods trying to emerge from the ranks of mediocrity in recent years with new staffs and leadership.
