It’s officially official: “College GameDay” is Columbus bound for Week 1 of the college football season.

On June 10, ESPN announced that Ohio State football’s game against the Texas Longhorns – a rematch of the College Football Playoff Cotton Bowl semifinal – will be the site of “College GameDay.”

The August 30th meeting between the Buckeyes and Longhorns is expected to be one of the more highly anticipated non-conference matchups this upcoming college football season. It will not only be Ohio State’s first game since winning the CFP in January, but it will be the first time the Buckeyes’ defense will go up against Arch Manning as Texas’ full-time starting quarterback.

The official announcement puts to rest the 0.001% chance that Lee Corso’s final show at the desk wouldn’t be where it all began for the legendary football coach’s headgear pick segment.

Columbus holds significance in Corso’s time on the “College GameDay” desk, as he made his first headgear pick outside Ohio Stadium in October 1996. In the 430 headgear picks that he has made since then, Corso has picked the Buckeyes in 45 of them — which marks the most for any team according to ESPN.

The legendary college football coach and analyst announced back in April that Week 1 of the 2025 season would be his last appearance on the show after 38 seasons previewing the biggest college football games of the week.

“My family and I will be forever indebted for the opportunity to be part of ESPN and College GameDay for nearly 40 years,” Corso said in a statement. “I have a treasure of many friends, fond memories and some unusual experiences to take with me into retirement.

“ESPN has been exceptionally generous to me, especially these past few years. They accommodated me and supported me, as did my colleagues in the early days of College GameDay. Special thanks to Kirk Herbstreit for his friendship and encouragement. And lest I forget, the fans … truly a blessing to share this with them. ESPN gave me this wonderful opportunity and provided me the support to ensure success. I am genuinely grateful.”

The Aug. 30 edition of “College GameDay” will mark the 68th time that Ohio State has been featured on the top college football pregame show. Ohio State was featured on “College GameDay” seven times during the 2024 season, which included a Week 13 trip to The Shoe vs. Indiana.

Ohio State and Texas are slated for a noon ET kickoff on Aug. 30 at The Shoe.
