INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The NFL and the Indianapolis Colts announced on Friday that Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin will serve as one of the NFL’s Global Flag Football Ambassadors.
As an ambassador, Franklin will help promote the growth of flag football around the world.
Franklin helped coach a girls flag football game on the field at Lucas Oil Stadium back in August, immediately following the Colts’ preseason matchup against the Broncos.
“It was just good to see the girls out there, the young ladies out there, having fun playing the game that we love,” Franklin said after that game.
Other NFL Global Flag Football Ambassadors include current Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, former New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora, Mexico Women’s National Team quarterback Diana Flores and Great Britain Women’s National Team center and former Buffalo Bills coach Phoebe Schecter.
“Last year, I had the chance to help coach girls flag football players at Lucas Oil Stadium, and I was so impressed by the skill, tenacity and passion of these young ladies,” Franklin said in a news release. “I look forward to helping grow flag football in Indiana and around the world and providing more opportunities for girls and boys alike to learn, play and connect through this awesome sport.”
The news release went on to say that Franklin “will represent the NFL and International Federation of American Football (IFAF) at various events, help develop educational content for participants and build relationships with athletes and organizers around the world. He also will help promote flag football in Indiana and the U.S., including NFL Flag Regional Tournaments, NFL Flag Championships, the Pro Bowl Games, the Super Bowl and more.”
This past season, Franklin led the league in tackles during the regular season, finishing the year with 173 tackles. He was also named a Pro Bowler for the first time in his career.
