Cooper Kupp agrees to reported 3-year, $45 million deal with Seahawks

After spending the first eight seasons of his NFL career with the Los Angeles Rams, Cooper Kupp is heading back to his home state. Kupp, a Yakima, Washington native and an alum of Eastern Washington University, is signing with the Seattle Seahawks for a three-year deal worth $45 million, per multiple media reports.

He was one of the biggest names remaining on the free-agent market that was mostly picked clean earlier in the week.

Kupp confirmed the deal Friday with a post on social media stating that he was “coming home.”

“Washington back across my chest. Let’s go!!!!!” Kupp wrote.

Kupp’s time with the Rams came to an end this week after L.A. failed to find a trade partner for Kupp, later releasing him. The wide receiver had spent his entire eight-year career with the Rams prior to being released.

Kupp will now join a depleted receiving corp in Seattle, headlined by 23-year-old WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Earlier this month, the Seahawks released longtime receiver Tyler Lockett, and sent DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers after Metcalf requested a trade.

Kupp, who was selected by the Rams in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, became a key part of the Los Angeles offense. The receiver earned Super Bowl MVP honors while leading the team on its 2021 championship run. Kupp won the receiving triple crown that season, leading the NFL with 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns on 145 catches.

The veteran receiver’s production has declined since: Kupp had 710 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 67 catches this past season. The Rams went 10-7 and reached the playoffs. They were eliminated by the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC divisional round.

Ahead of the recent Super Bowl, Kupp announced that the Rams were looking to trade him, saying that he disagreed with the choice, but understood that it was out of his control. Now, he’ll have a chance to make an impact on the field with the Seahawks.
