FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) announced its Baseball Coach of the Year on Wednesday afternoon, naming Adrian College’s Craig Rainey ’89 the recipient for the second consecutive season.
Rainey guided the Bulldogs to a 28-16 overall record and secured an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. Adrian went 16-5 in MIAA play to capture the program’s 16th conference championship. Despite dropping their opening game of the MIAA Tournament, the top-seeded Bulldogs rallied through the consolation bracket, winning four straight games to claim their 11th MIAA Tournament title.
Now in his 32nd season at the helm, Rainey enters the NCAA Regionals with a career record of 841-508. He currently ranks 49th in career wins among active NCAA baseball head coaches and 12th among active Division III coaches. This marks the second MIAA Coach of the Year honor in Rainey’s distinguished career.
The Bulldogs will begin NCAA Regional play this weekend at Nicolay Field. As the No. 4 seed, Adrian is set to face top-seeded UW-Whitewater on Friday, May 16, at 2:30 PM. More information can be found on the official tournament page.
