D1Baseball shares updated college baseball regionals projection for Iowa Hawkeyes

With the regular season entering its final week for most of the nation, D1Baseball shared its latest college baseball region projections for the Iowa Hawkeyes (32-17-1, 21-6 Big Ten) as the program prepares for its most consequential three-game series in the past 35 years at Duane Banks Field on Thursday vs. No. 7 Oregon (38-13, 19-8).

In D1Baseball’s projections, they placed the Hawkeyes in the “Last Four In” grouping alongside UT-Rio Grande Valley, Virginia, and Western Kentucky.

While the projection is on the fortunate side of the bubble, the Hawkeyes play this week and into next week’s Big Ten Tournament may be the deciding factor for their ability to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

Iowa baseball regionals projection

Chapel Hill Regional

No. 1 North Carolina (37-11, 16-10 ACC) vs. No. 4 Central Connecticut (27-12, 22-5 Northeast Conference)

No. 2 Ole Miss (34-17, 14-13 SEC) vs. No. 3 Iowa (32-17-1, 21-6 Big Ten)

As far as which regional the projections envision Iowa being placed in, the program maintained the same spot as they did last week — The third seed in the Chapel Hill region, which North Carolina will host.

While the region remains the same as in the Hawkeyes’ May 6 projections, this week’s prediction pairs them with Ole Miss and Central Connecticut, in addition to the Tar Heels.

As far as where other members of the Big Ten are projected to play, D1Baseball predicts that UCLA (Los Angeles regional) and Oregon (Eugene regional) will serve as the top regional seeds.

Michigan is the last Big Ten team included in the projection, as the Wolverines are looking from the outside-in as the last member of the “First Four Out” grouping.

With the Hawkeyes able to clinch the Big Ten regular-season title with a series victory against Oregon, Iowa hopes that claiming that crown will put more respect on the program’s image heading into the postseason.
