NASCAR icon Dale Earnhardt Jr. has opened up about his college football video game interest away from stock car racing. He revealed that he built an entire team and keeps track of all data on his iPad while acting as a virtual coach.
Although Earnhardt Jr. is talented in many ways, given his driving and broadcasting skills, very few knew about his keen interest in EA Sports’ College Football 25. The two-time Daytona 500 winner has mastered the game, amassing enough knowledge and data to pursue a new career if an opportunity comes his way. For now, he looks quite content with what he has achieved with his dynasty.
Earnhardt Jr. revealed that he built a dynasty with UNC Charlotte’s football program, where he helped develop the 49ers from a 1-star team to a 4.5-star powerhouse and beat his friend TJ Majors, who owns a Michigan dynasty. Earnhardt Jr. then showed his gift from Charlotte, a replica helmet, and revealed what he was up to on the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast.

“I started as a one-star with Charlotte and recruited them up to a four-and-a-half star, and beat Michigan, who’s a buddy of mine,” he said. “He was my best man, he was the best man of my wedding. TJ Majors.”
When asked how he managed to beat Michigan, he said:
“I recruited, worked hard.”
Earnhardt Jr. then went on to show his iPad and revealed the depth chart of his dynasty. He added:
“That is my depth chart. So this is my playbook. These are all run plays, pass plays, RPO screens. I will then rank them in their ability to gain yards, and then I will customize my playbook. It’s fun.”

Despite the college football video game activity that seems like it could be taking up a lot of his time, Earnhardt Jr. has not shied away from speaking up on trending NASCAR topics, such as the controversial approvals process that became the highlight after Katherine Legge’s crash in Phoenix. While many drivers questioned the current approval process, Earnhardt Jr. pointed out the lack of practice which could have played a key role in the incident. Newsweek Sports reported:
“The conversation around practice, right? Is one that hasn’t gotten enough attention until probably the last 48 hours. There was Katherine Legge at Phoenix, stirred up a lot of conversation around the approval process for drivers in NASCAR.
“I don’t think there is a problem or a perfect solution for the approval process. I’m sure there’s things you can change. I don’t really give two s**ts about it to be honest with you. Somebody’s going to make a decision, somebody at NASCAR is going to say yes or no and that’s that.”
He explained further:
“What I believe better serves that conversation is by talking about how practice might have helped her and the team improve the car. … The teams aren’t saving money by not practicing. Let’s just say the teams are spending a million dollars less to not practicing comparable to what they were doing in 2019.
“Well, they’ve taken that million and spent it somewhere else. They didn’t save it and put it in their pocket. That isn’t what’s going on. They hired two or three more people, to the guys on Door Bumper Clear, to their point, they’ve hired more people and they’ve hired more tools to basically practice during the week. Within sim, engineering and all these other things to try to continue to get better.”
