Dan Hurley announces UConn will play in college basketball’s top charity showcase in 2025

The UConn Huskies are coming off their first season in three years without a national championship. This time, it was Florida who eliminated them in the second round of the NCAA Tournament before going on to win the title over the Houston Cougars. Despite the early exit, head coach Dan Hurley still had a notable season.

Throughout the year, Hurley was portrayed as having a cocky demeanor and became one of the most disliked figures in college basketball. He responded to criticism of his coaching style by challenging the mentality of today’s sports culture.

“I’m not the victim. Sports are getting softer, and there aren’t enough people living and dying with every possession,” Hurley stated.

At the season’s end, Hurley took accountability for shifting attention away from his team and onto himself.

“If it wasn’t for all of my antics and viral moments, obviously there’d be more focus on just what we’ve accomplished as a program the last three years. It’s been an amazing run, one of the best runs anyone’s had,” Hurley told the media.

Hurley has been active during the transfer portal season and is looking forward to another strong year, especially with Alex Karaban returning for his final season. He also made an exciting announcement regarding UConn’s upcoming schedule—one that supports a meaningful cause.

“Dan Hurley announces at the Dick Vitale Gala in Sarasota that UConn will participate in the 2025 Jimmy V Classic at MSG,” Jon Rothstein posted.

The Jimmy V Classic is a charity event that raises funds for the V Foundation, named after the late Jimmy Valvano—best known for his broadcasting work with ESPN and his earlier career as a college player and coach.

Participating in the Jimmy V Classic is about more than basketball; it’s about supporting an incredible cause. Last year, Hurley stated he would only schedule single-day events moving forward, and this is one of the biggest single-day events in college basketball.
