Dodgers at Yankees World Series Game 4 odds, projections, how to watch: New York faces elimination

We’ve reached the first elimination game of the 2024 World Series, and it only took three games to get here. The Los Angeles Dodgers dominated the New York Yankees on Monday night in Yankee Stadium, going up 3-0 on the series and putting themselves just one game away from a championship.

No team has ever come back from 0-3 to win the World Series. To claim the title, the Yankees will have to win not just Game 4 but, of course, every remaining game.

But that’s tomorrow’s problem. Tonight, the Yankees just have to win one and avoid getting swept.

This World Series has been a case of one team at its best and another slumping at exactly the wrong time. The Yankees haven’t been up to their regular-season form in this series, and their performance in Game 4 was indicative of that trend. The Dodgers kept the Yankees scoreless for 26 outs and won 4-2 despite a two-run homer by Alex Verdugo in the ninth. Superstar hitters Juan Soto and Aaron Judge had zero hits.

The Dodgers have been pristine, with standout performances across the team, including Freddie Freeman, whose Game 1 grand slam put the Dodgers in control of this series; Walker Buehler, who had his best start of the year in Game 4; and, of course, Shohei Ohtani. Freeman homered on Monday and has now gone yard in all three games this series.

With Gerrit Cole not available on short rest from pitching Game 1, the Yankees are putting starter Luis Gil on the mound. The Rookie of the Year candidate yielded three earned runs over 5 1/3 innings against the Dodgers in early June. In his last three starts, he followed a downward trend, giving up 12 earned runs and four homers, but got 13 strikeouts.

Gil and the pitching staff will have to find a way to slow this Dodgers offense. But to win this one and contend in this series, the Yankees’ top priority has to be bringing their bats back to life.

MLB game projections from THE BAT X

In the tables below, you’ll see details for each MLB matchup, then a lot of numbers (which are updated all day):

  • “Moneyline” shows each team’s odds on BetMGM.
  • “Implied Win%” is the chance a team has to win based on those BetMGM odds.
  • “THE BAT X win%” is the chance a team has to win based on EV Analytics’ projections.
  • “Cash Line” is how THE BAT X would price each team’s odds.
  • “Value” is the percentage difference between the odds chances and our projections.

The higher the value percentage, the better — which you can easily see from the color coding from red (bad pick) through to green (good pick).

Note: On mobile, you may have to scroll to see the color-coded “Value” column on the far right of the first set of tables.

Another note: If you’re seeing old data or the tables aren’t showing up, you may need to “hard refresh” this page, or you may have an ad blocker or other software blocking the tables from loading.
