This is year two of the Spring Breakout game, where organizations across baseball compile a squad of their top prospects to go head-to-head with another team. After the Dodgers prospects played the Angels prospects last year, they will face off with the Cubs prospects this year before the regular season kicks off in Japan. The game will be at Camelback Ranch on March 13 at 6:05 p.m.

The Spring Breakout game is a good chance for many prospects to play the first televised game of their professional careers. The Dodgers roster has prospects from nearly every level of the minors, featuring players who are stateside for the first time this year alongside some who have reached as high as Double-A.
Some standouts from last year’s Spring Breakout game were Thayron Liranzo and Edgardo Henriquez. Liranzo was eventually dealt to the Tigers in the Jack Flaherty trade, and Henriquez had a breakout season that eventually led to an MLB call-up. This game is an opportunity for prospects who have improved over the offseason to show off their new look.
There are three players on the Dodgers roster this year who made MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 list: Outfielder Josue De Paula (No. 40), left-handed pitcher Jackson Ferris (No. 70) and outfielder Zyhir Hope (No. 74). All three were non-roster invitees to big league camp to begin this spring.

The two young outfielders each excelled at the plate this spring, with De Paula batting .444 and Hope homering before they were both reassigned to minor league camp. Ferris remains in big league camp for now and has thrown one scoreless inning this spring.

Other standout prospects on the Spring Breakout roster include teenage shortstops Emil Morales, Kellon Lindsey and Joendry Vargas. Morales won the Dominican Summer League MVP award last year and Lindsey was the Dodgers’ first round pick. Vargas posted an .899 OPS in his first Arizona Complex League action.

The outfield group is stacked even after De Paula and Hope. Eduardo Quintero, Ching-Hsien Ko, Mike Sirota, Kendall George and Jaron Elkins are all within MLB Pipeline’s top 30 Dodgers prospects and will participate in the Spring Breakout game.

There are some other notable young pitchers on the roster as well. Hyun-Seok Jang, Peter Heubeck, Jose Rodriguez, Reynaldo Yean and Chris Campos are all first-time Spring Breakout participants. Rodriguez has pitched in four games this spring, totaling five strikeouts and a 2.70 ERA.
