The Tigers bolstered their bullpen Wednesday and might not be done making moves.
Detroit finalized a one-year deal with Tommy Kahnle after missing out on top relievers like Kirby Yates and Ryan Pressly. The Kahnle deal gives A.J. Hinch’s side a pitcher with playoff experience for the back of their bullpen. It also came amid reported interest in Alex Bregman along with the Boston Red Sox and multiple other teams.
Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris commented on his team’s next steps after Wednesday.
“We’re going to find ways to get better. Bullpen and our lineup are two areas that we are going to look to upgrade if we can, but we also like our depth on both sides of the ball,” Harris told reporters, per MLB Trade Rumors.
Harris didn’t get into specifics but noted that the front office would utilize any method of acquisition available to them. Detroit’s talks with Bregman reportedly went to a standstill before the Houston Astros’ renewed discussions with the All-Star. The Tigers likely would turn to rookie Jace Jung at the hot corner if they can’t land Bregman.
