The University of Pennsylvania’s John R. Rockwell Head Coach of Men’s Basketball, Fran McCaffery, has announced the addition of David Duda, Jr. to his staff as the program’s director of basketball operations.
Duda comes to Penn after spending the last two years on Mike Rhoades’ staff at Penn State University as a graduate assistant. His professional operations experience includes serving as the basketball director at the iRoy Multi-Sport Complex in Collegeville, Pa., and as a basketball camp director at Competitive Edge Sports in King of Prussia, Pa.
“Dave comes from a basketball family,” said McCaffery, who was hired as Penn’s head coach in April. “He has an impressive resume for a young guy and came highly recommended from people who are good friends that I trust in this profession. He has already shown that he’s an incredibly hard worker, and I think Dave’s going to make a great impact on our program.”
“I’m extremely grateful to Coach McCaffery and the staff for giving me this opportunity at the University of Pennsylvania,” said Duda. “I look forward to working with this group in pursuit of excellence atop the Ivy League.”
Duda played his college ball at East Stroudsburg (Pa.) University, where he was a Dean’s List student who earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District and NABC Honors Court accolades. He graduated with the program record for 3-point field-goal percentage for a season, going 52-106 (49.1) as a senior in 2022-23. That same year, Duda was just the second CSC Academic All-America nominee in program history.
Duda graduated Magna Cum Laude from ESU in sport management and got his master’s degree in higher education at PSU.
Duda grew up in the Philadelphia region; his father, also named David, is currently the athletic director at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, Pa., following a long career as a college basketball coach in the area. The younger David played at Methacton High School where he graduated third on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,232 points and was the all-time leader with 246 three-point baskets, He was a two-time first-team all-league selection and the Suburban Markward Player of the Year as a senior.
