The Duke Blue Devils are, without a doubt, the hottest team in college basketball, having won 16 consecutive games. Duke is currently on an impressive tear, and there’s no sign of them slowing down. The Blue Devils are led by the projected first overall pick, along with several other promising draft prospects.
Jon Scheyer has crafted this roster perfectly, positioning them as the second-best team in the country, behind Auburn, whom the Blue Devils defeated at the start of December. This season is special for Duke, and the future looks even brighter with a wealth of top-ranked recruits set to join the program once again.
On Wednesday night, Duke traveled to Syracuse for an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup. Syracuse has struggled all season to find its footing and get comfortable. Heading into the season, Syracuse was expected to be near the top of the ACC. However, things don’t always go according to plan.
To no one’s surprise, Duke came out and absolutely dominated the host team, Syracuse. Tyrese Proctor led the Blue Devils in scoring with 16 points, Kon Knueppel added 12, and Cooper Flagg contributed 11. Overall, five Duke players scored in double figures.
After the game, Syracuse’s social media account posted that the game had the highest attendance of any college basketball game this season, with 23,313 fans in attendance. Duke’s social media team decided to respond with a subtle jab:
“#TheDukeEffect,” the account posted.
The jab was small but enough to send the message: the fans came to watch Duke, not Syracuse. Duke is clearly onto something, as they are one of, if not the, most exciting teams to watch in all of college hoops this season.
The Blue Devils will look to extend their streak as they remain perfect in ACC play, continuing to dominate the conference.
