DWU baseball picked to finish eighth in preseason GPAC coaches poll

MITCHELL — The Dakota Wesleyan baseball team was picked to finish in the bottom four in the Great Plains Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll on Thursday.

The Tigers garnered 31 points in the rankings, slotting them in at eighth ahead of Dordt, Hastings and Waldorf. Concordia was picked to finish as the conference champion with 98 points in the poll and eight of the 11 first-place votes. Doane was picked to finish second with 93 points and three first-place votes. Morningside (79), Midland (66) and Mount Marty (54) rounded out the top five.

DWU finished last season with a 13-35 record including a 7-21 mark in GPAC play. The Tigers return multiple impact players coming into the 2025 season. Among those impactful returners is sophomore pitcher/utility man Caleb Meyers, who finished with a team-high .331 batting average last season. Junior outfielder Lane Darrow is also back after having the second-highest batting average (.305).

On the mound, senior Mitchell Sand returns after leading the Tigers in innings pitched (62) and had the lowest earned-run average (4.50) among the starting staff. Alexander Mizsak, who finished with 54 innings pitched and the second-lowest ERA (5.33) among starting pitchers also returns for his junior year.

The Tigers kick off their 2025 campaign on Saturday, Feb. 1 with a road trip to Columbia, Missouri to face Columbia with an 11 a.m. first pitch.
