EA Sports College Football 25 was the No. 2 best-selling video game in the U.S. last year, blasting expectations in its return from a 11-year hiatus (it’s also a nominee for Sports Breakthrough of the Year at May’s Sports Business Awards). So, it’s fitting that EA Sports is sharing the spoils of its success as part of its multiyear NIL program with players, which OneTeam Partners manages.
The game-publishing giant is boosting its NIL offer to FBS players to $1,500 and a deluxe copy of EA Sports College Football 26, a significant increase from last year’s $600 offer (which 14,000 players accepted).
Around 11,000 players’ NIL were in that game, which broke the record for the biggest NIL deal. The offer has already gone out to FBS players, and incoming freshman will also get a chance at it, too, once they’re enrolled at their schools and in the Compass app. EA Sports also plans on an ambassador program as well — it had 150 or so players in it for College Football 25.
An EA Sports spokesperson said the response from fans and the community for College Football 25 was “far beyond our expectations” and that includes the players, as the opt-in was “way more than we could’ve anticipated. It was just amazing to see so many of them opting to be in the game.” The discussions between EA Sports and OneTeam had been “ongoing” for some time.
EA also said it considered “a few different factors, such as market trends” and its “expectations for College Football 26 and future forecasts” to come to that $1,500 NIL number. The goal was to find “fair compensation” for players for the game’s success. EA Sports: “We feel like landing that number — there were a bunch of different factors that we looked at — that we’ve come to a place that felt good and fair.”
