Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 4, Dodgers 2 – April 13, 2025

That is just an unbelievably good series win for the Chicago Cubs. And set against some really sour news today, too. That’s the kind of thing that can really build confidence and bring a group together. Over a full season, sometimes that matters at the margins.

Pete Crow-Armstrong grew up not too far from Dodger Stadium, which must be why he was able to make it his second home tonight. His two homers and a triple get him the Ankin Law “Making it Personal” Player of the Game honors, and also hopefully get him on time for some increased slugging. He has plenty of power, and he’s been just a bit off so far this year. Maybe tonight really kickstarts things. More on PCA tomorrow.

Carson Kelly took a Tyler Glasnow pitch off the left wrist, and although he was able to stay in the game at first, he eventually departed. Having lost Justin Steele for the season today, and having Seiya Suzuki day-to-day (and out today) with a wrist issue … I really don’t want to think about the Cubs ALSO losing Kelly today. Baseball can’t be that cruel, right?

Since he’s not fully stretched out, getting 70-ish pitches and close to four innings from Colin Rea was about the best you could hope for. And for him to do it against this lineup, in this ballpark, and allow just one run?

From there, outside of Caleb Thielbar, the bullpen was nails. Probably one of their best nights of the year, not only in the length they had to cover, but also in how frequently low-stress the innings were.

Nod to the defense tonight, too. A number of really strong plays out there.

Oh, and Michael Busch … dude REALLY loves playing against the Dodgers. Maybe it’s good that the Cubs see them again in a week.
