ESPN announces Sunday Night Baseball schedule, includes Red Sox game

ESPN announced its Sunday Night Baseball schedule on Wednesday and includes a game for the Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox will host the St. Louis Cardinals on April 6 at 7 p.m. in their first Sunday home game of the 2025 season. It’s the second game in ESPN’s slate of Sunday Night Baseball, with the Atlanta Braves taking on the San Diego Padres on March 30 on opening weekend.

The Red Sox-Cardinals matchup is certainly interesting. Cardinals infielder Nolan Arenado has been rumored to be traded this offseason. He used his no-trade clause and blocked a trade to the Houston Astros, and his “preferred destination” is reportedly Boston.

While it would certainly be an intriguing add, the Red Sox have a third baseman in star Rafael Devers and the team appears set at keeping him at the corner position.

Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story, who’s friends with Arenado, called it a “unique opportunity” that he could potentially reunite with his former teammate.

“Everyone knows that we’re pretty close,” Story said at Fenway Fest. “Nolan’s one of my good friends. This is a unique opportunity. We talk about baseball a lot. I’ll keep those conversations between us, but we do have a really good third baseman in Raffy Devers, so that would be obviously up to someone else to figure out how it works. That’s not my job to talk about that. But obviously, the chance of that happening is exciting for everyone.

“I’ve played around him a lot. He’s as good as it gets. The intensity he brings is really beneficial. He would thrive at Fenway.”

Should the Red Sox and Cardinals come to a deal that sends Arenado to Boston before the 2025 season begins, it would certainly add a layer of excitement to their April 6 game.
