The 2025 WNBA Draft took place on Monday night in New York City. A big story coming into the event was the draft stock of Sedona Prince. She continued to slide through the second round before eventually not hearing her name called at all. One of TCU‘s biggest contributors this past season, Prince does not yet have a team attached to her name.
ESPN’s Ryan Ruocco explained the situation surrounding Prince. Some off-court issues are prevalent, having multiple assault accusations against her name. While Prince has denied any wrongdoing, she is older for the draft class as well.
Finally, mix in some injuries, and teams were willing to pass on her completely. Definently one of the top storylines coming out of the WNBA Draft.
“One other story we are following tonight, Sedona Prince, who has not been drafted yet, was projected in the second round or better,” Ruocco said. “An all-conference center was a huge contributor to TCU’s best season ever.
“Off the court, has faced assault accusations from four women since 2019, has denied those allegations, has not been charged with a crime. Our reporting confirms, though, this is something teams were looking at, along with her age and her injury history.”
Prince began her college career all the way back in 2019-2020 with the Oregon Ducks. Three seasons were spent in Eugene but in reality, just one was spent on the court. Only one game was played as a true freshman before missing the 2022-2023 campaign due to a broken elbow.
TCU was there for Prince on the other side of the NCAA transfer portal. Two seasons were spent with the Horned Frogs, averaging 18.1 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. No awards were handed out for her performances. However, TCU did make a deep run in this year’s NCAA Tournament, making it to the Elite Eight.
Ruocco mentioned the age potentially being part of the lack of interest. Prince wound up spending six seasons in college basketball. Between a redshirt season and COVID-19 giving maintaining eligibility, Prince is already 24 years old. She will be 25 in just around a month too.
Teams are not willing to mess with the assault allegations either, according to Ruocco, despite not being charged with a crime. A tough situation for Prince as she is now officially an undrafted free agent following her college basketball career filled with on-court success.
