Ex-Broncos pass rusher lands in CFL after failed lawsuit against NFL

Aaron Patrick’s professional football career will continue.

Three years after Patrick last played in the NFL with the Denver Broncos, the 28-year-old pass rusher has signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the CFL team announced on Friday.

Patrick was a key special teams player and rotational outside linebacker for the Broncos for two years before tearing his ACL against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football in 2022.

Patrick filed a lawsuit that named numerous parties, including the NFL and the Chargers, stating that a carpet on the sideline at SoFi Stadium caused him to slip and tear his ACL.

A federal judge dismissed part of Patrick’s lawsuit in 2023, noting that the pass rusher’s “exclusive remedy against the team and the league resides within the confines of the Collective Bargaining Agreement,” according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com.

After the NFL and Chargers were dropped from the lawsuit, Patrick later reached a settlement in February with the other parties involved, according to TMZ Sports.

Patrick will now get an opportunity to relaunch his pro football career. He last played in the NFL in 2022, playing 102 snaps on special teams in five games with the Broncos.
