Ex-Red Sox Shows Support For Rafael Devers After Blunt Remarks

Rafael Devers let it fly Thursday, both in the ballpark and in the clubhouse.

Devers provided the Red Sox’s most impactful bat in Boston’s series finale against the Texas Rangers. The three-time All-Star laced an RBI single and blasted a solo home run en route to his team’s 5-0 victory at Fenway Park.

But before Alex Cora’s club set out for Kansas City, Devers made even more noise with his words.

The 28-year-old finally broke his silence about the possibility of moving to first base in wake of Triston Casas’ season-ending knee injury. Devers, who begrudgingly changed positions before the campaign started, made it clear he had no interest in playing first and clearly was irked by the organization asking him to do so.

The candid commentary was applauded by former MLB first baseman Eric Hosmer, who played the second half of the 2022 season alongside Devers in Boston.

“Let em know carita,” Hosmer posted to X on Friday.

It’s unclear how Devers’ current teammates feel about his unwillingness to play first. But the veteran slugger on Thursday insisted he has “great” relationships with those inside the Red Sox clubhouse.
