The first “Thursday Night Football” matchup of the 2025-2026 season will feature the Dallas Cowboys against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The opening game will be held Thursday, Sept. 4, in Philadelphia, home of the defending Super Bowl champions.
The Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 at the 2025 Super Bowl in February, and the team will start the upcoming season against its NFC East rival, the Cowboys.
While the Eagles will have stars Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley coming back, the Cowboys will have quarterback Dak Prescott returning from a lingering hamstring injury.
The Cowboys also have a new head coach, Brian Schottenheimer. Schottenheimer previously served as the team’s offensive coordinator and seems to have his eyes set on the team’s first Super Bowl victory since 1996.
The announcement, made May 12 exclusively on TODAY, came days before the full schedule for the 2025-2026 season is set to be revealed on Wednesday, May 14.
